WELCOME BACK!
Listed below are some of the things Y4 will be learning
about in the next half term.
Numeracy
Properties of numbers and
number sequences; mental calculations and problem solving; measures work linked
to length and area and solving problems involving length; handling data and shape and space work
involving both 2 and 3D shapes.
At Home- Please practise
adding 1, 10, 100, 1000 to numbers. Count over 100’s, 1000’s boundaries.
Practise the following
strategies to aid addition and subtraction work-
Rounding - e.g. 25+39—(25+40)-1=
Adjusting - e.g. 46+28—44+30=
Partitioning - e.g. 34-17—34-10-4-3=
Literacy
At the beginning
of term, Mrs Hunt will be working on poetry, looking at poems with a similar
theme including animal poems. Mrs Allonby will work on the development of
narrative writing including some with an historical setting.
Science
Keeping Warm will
be our science topic this term.
History
We will be
learning about the Ancient Greeks.
I.C.T
We will be using I.C.T to develop, organise & explore ideas &
writing for different audiences.
Geography;
Village Settlers- We will be learning how settlements develop over time.
(linked to Y3 work on Romans).
Music
This year, the children in Year 4, will take part in the Wider Opportunities
programme. Each Monday they will have a whole class lesson, with a specialist
teacher, Mr Bell, leading the lesson. The aim is to encourage them to develop
their musical experience with instruments. The children will be bringing brass
instruments home each week and these need to be cared for properly and brought
back to school each week for the lesson each Monday. In the next few weeks, there
will be a short meeting, to discuss the programme in more detail.
P.E.
Gymnastics on Tuesday
and Games on Thursdays. Labelled PE kits must be in school on these days. Long
hair must be tied back and earrings removed for these lessons.
Homework will be given weekly-
Spellings
Times tables
Week 2 - 2’s,
Week 3 -3’s,
Week 4 - 4’s,
Week 5 – 5’s
Week 6 - 6’s
Week 7- 10’s
Week 8 - a mixed
tables test.
They will be
tested weekly on Wednesday.
We will also set a variety of topic based homework
each week, please see your child’s homework book for the date the work is due
in.
Reading should be done at least twice a week and
recorded in your child’s reading diary, please sign and date when your child
has read.
Messages may be sent in the same book.
Remember- Any
